Business trips may be good for, well, business, but they may not be so good for your health. So follow these work-travel tips from Rachel Meltzer Warren, RD, owner of Nutritionista Communication + Consulting in New York City.
Plan ahead. Pack a 100-calorie pack of nuts, a cheese stick or some baby carrots in your carry-on bag to help avoid the urge to splurge on a giant cookie or ice cream cone at the airport while you wait for your flight.
Work out. Of course you miss your kids when you’re away. But because you’re traveling alone, you’ll likely have some time for yourself. Check out the gym or pool at your hotel and enjoy the accomplishment of getting some exercise.
Choose treats wisely. The bread basket, a glass of wine, a few bites of dessert—especially on a work expense account—can quickly negate the day’s healthy eating. To indulge without overdoing, choose the one extra you’ll enjoy the most.
