Is your little green monster rearing its ugly head over your colleague’s promotion? It’s natural to want the recognition yourself, but it’s also important (and emotionally healthy!) to celebrate other women’s successes rather than envy them, says Sharmin Tunguz, PhD, associate professor of psychology at Depauw University in Greencastle, IN.

Work together.
Think of colleagues as collaborators rather than competitors. This way, their successes will serve as models for inspiration instead of sources of insecurity.

Offer compliments.
Congratulate officemates to help foster a cohesive community rather than individual resentment.

Befriend, don’t belittle.
Seek advice on how to get ahead from the person you’re inclined to envy. Instead of stewing about how you should have gotten the promotion, start planning how you can become the top candidate in time for the next round of reviews.
