According to the Census Bureau, full-time female employees still make on average 77 cents for every $1 earned by men. That is what make the Paycheck Fairness Act all the more important. The bill, a much-needed update of the Equal Pay Act, would give victims of gender-based wage discrimination a voice, shield employees from retaliation for sharing salary information with co-workers and require companies to show that wage differences are job-related rather than based on gender. This is an issue that impacts all women, and certainly working mother's. So speak up. Lawmakers will listen when they realize votes are at stake.Read more about the issue in the New York Times here.
