I used to joke years ago that my toddler daughter was working on becoming the Imelda Marcos of her pre-school. Guess I know where she got it from.
I have an entire file drawer completely filled with shoeboxes of just the shoes I wear at work. Since I do a lot of walking on my commute (stairs, then across town to office) I have lots of what I call my “commuter shoes”. Recently, a co-worker was cleaning out her workspace and “showed me hers”. She claims she has even more shoes here than me.
When you work outside the home, you have double the opportunities to indulge and of course, rationalize every shoe purchase. Let’s see, gotta have sneakers and casual for the weekend and commuting, shoes with heels to go with dresses and nice pants some of which stay at work, others for home. Summer versions of these. Oh and boots for big snowstorms, half boots for sleet and rain. Rain shoes, dress boots. Fleecy sneakers for really cold but dry days. Dress half boots. Running sneakers. Sneakers that can get muddy. Slip on shoes, slippers for summer and winter. Flip flops. Dressy flip flops. Other sandals. Water shoes for rocky beaches.
My daughter helped me at home a couple of weeks ago as I put away all the summer shoes and pulled out the winter. “Mommy, you really have a lot of shoes”. Just don’t tell your father.
