OUTSTANDING PROGRAM This leading high-tech firm values an educated workforce, offering unlimited tuition reimbursements to employees who study computer science, engineering or other technical subjects and up to $50,000 to anyone who pursues an MBA or any graduate-level business program.

FLEX ABILITY To make it easier for employees to use alternative schedules, the company has compiled a new Flexibility Report to open discussions between staffers and managers regarding flexibility issues. Manufacturing employees often compress their schedules into three- or four-day workweeks of 12-hour days, while many other employees telecommute weekly. Participants in the new Parent Reintegration program can work part-time for a year after returning from pregnancy or adoption leave.

FAMILY-FRIENDLY Employees in seven states have access to backup care and priority slots at 13 near-site child-care providers. The company will also reimburse employees $60 per day for weekday emergency child care, up to five days a year.

WHAT’S COOL Nine outreach luncheons organized by the Female Leadership Council in 2007 helped foster networking and mentoring among senior-level women. In a follow-up survey, more than 95% of attendees reported being “very satisfied” with the events.
