FLEX APPEAL At this multinational company, nearly 60% of employees use flextime, while almost 30% compress their workweeks. To help staffers determine what schedule will work best for them, the company website provides calculators, checklists and other tools.

CHILD-CARE KUDOS The Wilmington heaquarters features an on-site facility that can accommodate up to 200 infants, toddlers and preschoolers. And 80% of their parents say that having the center nearby positively impacts their work performance. Employees at other locations receive 10% discounts at day-care centers and sponsored backup and sick-child care in their homes or at accredited facilities.

WHAT'S COOL The company proved its strong commitment to its employees last year when hurricanes Katrina and Rita severely damaged nine plants and left hundreds of employees homeless. DuPont donated more than $1 million to the relief effort, plus food and supplies, mobile homes and essential services to stranded staff. The storm victims also continued to receive their salaries for varying lengths of time despite the shutdown of their plants.

LEAVES WE LOVE DuPont's family leave policy is notable for a number of reasons: Full-time employees may take up to six unpaid months off to care for a new baby, foster child or seriously ill family member. When the leave is up, they can ease back into their job by working part-time, with full benefits. New moms receive full pay for six weeks of their maternity leave, while primary caregivers who adopt are paid for four weeks of their leave.
