FLEX APPEAL This high-tech firm believes in pushing the boundaries of innovation—and that includes family-friendly policies: Almost every employee used some form of flex last year. A notable 40% of staffers telecommuted, almost 30% opted for flextime, and roughly 25% chose compressed workweeks.

CHILD-CARE KUDOS Parents have plenty of child-care options, thanks to eight company-sponsored near-site centers serving the needs of employees at various California, Oregon and Arizona sites—that's about 80% of the staff, and more than 1,100 employee kids. In addition, workers at three sites have access to 115 company-sponsored in-home child-care providers.

LEAVES WE LOVE A new perk allows workers to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid time off to attend to any family matter not covered by other programs—from helping a special-needs child transition to a new school to preparing an elderly parent for assisted living. Moms receive ten weeks of partially paid maternity leave, and a new program lets them phase back to work gradually.

WHAT'S COOL An on-site wellness program cares for employees from the inside out, offering diabetes and hypertension screening, one-on-one health coaching and a health-risk assessment. More than 10,000 workers participated last year—and were rewarded with an American Express gift card.
