FLEX APPEAL This high-tech powerhouse estimates that 80% of its employees around the globe use some kind of flextime. Telecommuting, part-time schedules and job-sharing are popular, as are compressed workweeks. Part-timers receive health benefits if they put in at least 20 hours a week.

CHILD-CARE KUDOS More than 9,000 employees have children under age 12, so helping them find quality child care is critical. The company's comprehensive resource and referral service fills that need, and pretax set-asides cover the costs.

LEAVES WE LOVE Knowing that life with babies can be unpredictable, the company lets new moms take a three-day paid leave anytime during the first six months after birth or adoption. They also receive six weeks of maternity leave at full pay and can discuss a phase-back arrangement with their managers to make the transition back to work easier. Dads and adoptive parents get three days of paid leave.

WHAT'S COOL For this computer manufacturer, offering e-learning sessions on achieving work/life balance is a natural. Topics range from managing stress to delegating. In 2006, employees were able to access 51 online training sessions—58% more than the previous year.
