Focus on the Best Women-Owned Companies - Meet the 2007 Winners
Good things do come in small packages--and our winning companies prove it.

By: Melinda Dodd, Susan Gerstenzang, Caroline Howard, Nina Markov & Abigail Mitchell

The 25 small businesses that gained a spot on our second annual list are thriving, as well as thrilling in their work/life ways. That's how they won our vote, through their commitment to supporting working moms. With many traditional benefits, like flexible schedules and on-site child care, professional development and paid leave, even on-site gyms, our winners are carving out creative work cultures to nurture—and retain—their staff. They even exceed our expectations when it comes to innovative perks, like providing catered dinners to new-parent employees, stocking an office playroom with toys so parents can bring their children to work and sending moms off to enjoy at day at a spa. It's no wonder that the number of women-owned firms continues to grow at twice the rate of U.S. firms overall. Indeed, small businesses are a big contributor to our economy: They create two out of every three new jobs and account for slightly more than half of the gross domestic product in this country. We're certain you'll enjoy meeting these inspiring small-business owners.
