New Mother - Healthy First Foods
The latest in frozen organic baby foods

By: Tiffany Forte

You want to give your hungry little guy the best possible nutrition, but face it: Your work/life balance just doesn’t leave time for whipping up your own baby food. The next-best thing may be frozen organic. Quality products in this trend offer great nutrition and pesticide-free ingredients and avoid the high heating process that is sometimes involved during the jarring of preserved baby foods.

Here are three top choices:

Petite Palate
, cofounded by chef-moms Lisa Beels and Christine Naylor, serves up big flavor and necessary nutrients—minus the salt. This national “gourmet” line has six sophisticated organic recipes, including Spinach Potato Puree, Banana Peach Blend and Split Pea Stew ($2.50, amazon.com/grocery).

HAPPYBABY
fresh organic meals of frozen meat, grain, fruit and vegetable cubes are just right for ages 6 months and up. The company includes the omega-3 fatty acid DHA (critical for brain and eye development) in four of its 15 unique flavors ($5, happybabyfood.com for stores).

Plum Organics

was created by entrepreneur mom Gigi Lee Chang in 2006 to cater to her young son’s eating habits. Today, this baby food empire offers 12 meals for ages 6 months and up, including the DHA-fortified Mango Muesli, a puree of mangoes, oats, quinoa, apples and brown rice, and Pumpkin Banana ($4, Whole Foods Market and SuperTarget stores).
