By: Carol Evans It all started with my BlackBerry, which my investors from MCG Capital gave me as a gift. I had never loved sitting in front of a computer, but this portable companion appealed to my need for speed. I went from technology mediocrity to finding my own brand of geekiness, mastering the whole PDA thing quickly and deeply.
It was harder to get workingmother.com just right. Of course we put lots of great content online for you to read whenever you want. But we also wanted to build a virtual community so you could all get connected together. It was a challenge—until we began blogging. I wrote several blogs myself, and then our readers stepped up and started blogging about everything: stress, companies, kids, holidays, housework, homework—you name it. I’m blogging a lot right now, too. I wake up in the morning and have this urgent need to say something to you through the ether. Then I find out about your needs and ideas through your blogs. I’ve also been reading your message boards, which represent a full-scale attack on the common problems of working motherhood.
Now we are leaping forward again. We’re taking the magazine digital! In addition to our paper-and-ink version, we’ll have an exact replica of Working Mother online so you can leaf through every page electronically. If you’re already a Working Mother subscriber, go to coverleaf.com/workingmother to read the free digital magazine whenever you like. If you’re not a subscriber yet, go to the same website for a trial digital issue and see what you think.
I thought blogging was going to be another layer of work on top of everything else. But it doesn’t feel that way. It feels like I’m sharing with a friend, like when I call Jan Smith in Colorado. If you have a few minutes, blog with me at workingmother.com.
