Time flies

Posted on July 12, 2010

Wow, my last entry was back in January. I had just found out I was pregnant with our second child, we were about to buy a new house and I was getting ready to teach my first face-to-face undergrad course. Needless to say, I’ve been busy. It’s a boy and I am thankful all of the anxiety and problems early on in the pregnancy have disappeared; we are on track for a healthy baby in just 10 weeks! We moved, I’ve taught two courses in addition to my full-time job and we just returned from a wonderful family vacation. All of this since January seems impossible, but somehow we find the strength within us to keep pushing forward.

Among all of the craziness I never lose sight of the most wonderful yet independent and stubborn three year-old little boy who is my world. He’s really tested me over the last few months, by learning how far he can push the boundaries – but I feel like we are turning the corner and he’s suddenly preparing to become a big brother.  The thought brings tears to my eyes, where did my first baby go and how did it happen so quickly? As I prepare for the birth of our second child I am constantly flooded with the memories of preparing for my first son’s birth, the excitement, the birth and the first few months of his life. The second time is not the same; I am excited in such a different way. I cannot wait to meet this little guy, but I also cannot wait for the moment I can introduce him to his big brother. When I imagine the moment it overwhelms me. I cannot wait, I just wish I could slow time down when it the moment arrives….it all flies by much too fast.
