Walk it off.

Remove yourself from an angry moment and take yourself out into fresh air. Walk around the block or to the park. Inhale deeply and exhale slowly as you walk to regulate your breathing and calm yourself down.

My wife had years of severe

jafo's picture
by jafo on September 03, 2012
My wife had years of severe anger built up at her Mom. Her Mom left her Dad recently after 40 years of marriage. My wife attempted to discuss some of her own feelings with her Mom but her Mom coldly and cowardly cut her off. My wife suppressed all this anger but it started to surface in destructive ways. Eventually she cheated on me with a man she barely knew. When I found out it was like a demon inside her had been released. Please find better ways of dealing with your anger everybody. While I understand her and forgive her it is still incredibly painful.

This is great stuff. I've never been very good at handling anger. And I've read recently (see Dr. Darryl Cross's book http://www.depressionatwork.com) that anger can lead to depression, and that's never a good thing of course. I especially like your advice about walking it off. It's very simple but based on experience, it's pretty effective. :)
