Someone mashed the potatoes

Posted on November 24, 2010

I spent the better part of the year making the transition from employee to employer. Been a crazy ride trying to figure out how to balance being a business owner and the best mom my kids could have. Now, you are thinking that in the midst of this craziness we call life, balancing the family and work would be the hardest thing. I was thinking the same thing. Until August, when it was discovered I had a bone tumor. Tumor? I don't have time for no tumor. Well, I had to make time. So, surgery complete, healing going fabulous, trying to get back into the rhythm of things. Wouldn't you know it... pathology reports are in... what the heck is a chondrosarcoma? In laymen's terms- cancer. Hhhmm. ok. Does that come with a couple extra hours in the day?

So here I am, 2 days before Thanksgiving and I have just inherited a whole new set of balls to juggle. Who the heck mashed the potatoes on me? Am I bitter? Surprisingly not. But I do wish I had a few more hours in the day. Anyone familiar with radiation? They do this every day, 5 days a week for 6-7 weeks in my case. EVERY business day for 6-7 weeks! Did I say EVERY??? There is a bright side... I get to escape chemotherapy because we caught it early enough. See, everything has a bright side.

My husband has been great, and very supportive as I tote my ipad to every doctor appointment and handle running my business on the go. I must say, my goal was to be able to run things completely mobile to have the flexibility for my kids. I am pretty much there since I was forced to put mobile processes in place due to my health roadblocks even though the circumstances are not what I had planned.

So, the hubby and kids are asleep, it's 12:30 and I am still working and still wondering... who the heck decided on the mashed potatoes this year?

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! This year, life itself is at the top of that list!
