It’s always struck me as funny that we tend to make resolutions to better ourselves in the dead of winter when we can barely pry ourselves out from
under our toasty comforters in the morning, let alone put on a tracksuit and sneakers at dawn to launch into a calorie-burning three-mile jog in the snow. Wouldn’t our attempts to lose weight, be healthier and get organized stand a better chance of success if we announced life-altering plans on May 1 instead of January 1?
This New Year, why not let yourself off the hook? Save your resolutions for another few months. I promise that shedding pounds will be easier because you will want to go for long walks when spring is in the air; eating lighter will be a natural by-product of the warmer weather; and getting organized will have a handy jump-start with spring cleaning. So instead of making big New Year’s resolutions, ring in 2011 by enjoying downtime with family and friends who mean the most to you. My 6-year-old son, Jack, believes that the best part of the holidays—after the presents, of course—is having sleepovers as we visit friends and relatives scattered across the country.
I think he’s onto something. Happy holidays!
