Yanbing Li, Ph.D, Managing Director, VMware China Research and Development Center Dr. Yanbing Li is the Managing Director for VMware (NYSE: VMW, the global leader of virtualization technology and cloud computing)’s R&D Center in China. She is responsible for setting the vision and strategies and leading the plan and execution of building VMware’s R&D presence in China into a world-class R&D Center. The center’s R&D efforts span across core virtualization technologies and cloud computing. She oversees people and organization development and the operation of the Center. She is also responsible for building relationship with local universities and the government, as well as driving R&D partnership with VMware’s go to market effort in the Greater China region. Before returning to China and being part of the leadership team to build and grow VMware’s China R&D Center, Yanbing joined VMware at its headquarter in Palo Alto, California. Prior to VMware, Yanbing worked at Synopsys (a leading Electronic Design Automation software maker) in Silicon Valley for 9 years in various research, development, and engineering leadership roles. Yanbing has 20 refereed publications in technical journals and conferences. She is a sought after speaker on virtualization and cloud computing, and has spoken at conferences, customer events, and print and online media. She served on the US National Delegation to the ISO/IEC (International Standard Organization) Plenary Meeting on SOA and Cloud Computing. Yanbing holds a Ph.D degree from Princeton University (USA), a Master's degree from Cornell University (USA), and a BS degree from Tsinghua University (Beijing), in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering. Being a mother of three young children, Yanbing enjoys the challenges and fulfillment from managing a busy personal life and a stimulating career.
