Administrative Director, Support Services / Bon Secours St. Mary's Hospital

Weston Thiss, a six sigma green belt, is currently the Administrative Director of Support Services at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital.  He currently runs a team of over 200 hourly employees in Environmental Services, Patient Transport, Linen Management and Nutrition Services at a 391 bed acute care hospital. He served as the president of the American Society for Environmental Services (ASHES) a professional management group of the American Hospital Association (AHA) and president of the AHA - Certification Center which oversees the professional certifications for healthcare Environmental Services, Facilities Management (2), Human Resources, AONE and Risk Management. Included among the many awards he has won for his outstanding leadership in the Environmental Services profession are the 2009 EVS Department of the Year presented by Healthcare Facilities Magazine and the AHA, ASHES highest award the Phoenix, presented for dedication and service to the industry.

Mr. Thiss has spoken at numerous national conferences on the relationship between Environmental Services and Infection Control, emerging technologies, and recruitment- retention in support services. In his current role he has 0% first year turnover and less than 7% overall.  Mr. Thiss presented “Training the immigrant workforce in hospitals in the United States” to the Diversity Dialogues World Health Day Conference, and his programs have been included in the last two AHA publications of Community Connections highlighting ideas and innovation for healthcare leaders. 

Mr. Thiss is a past chair and current member of the Environmental Services and Facilities Sourcing and Advisory Committee for Premier the largest not-for –profit Group Purchasing Organization in the United States. In this capacity he provides oversite on contracts and pricing for over 1500 US hospitals.

Mr. Thiss’ passion is developing people.  Programs he has created have moved individuals in recovery to productive healthcare workers, new immigrant programs to assimilate workers including on site ESL, and most recently heads the only program in the country, Project Search, to mainstream autistic high schoolers into healthcare related jobs.
