Senior Vice President and General Manager, Specialty Retail Walmart Mexico & Centro America

Simona began working for Walmart Mexico in April of 1992 at its’ recently opened Sam’s Club division.

She served as an assistant buyer for several General Merchandise categories for Sam’s Club Mexico from 1992 to 1993. She then became a Buyer for different General Merchandise categories for Sam’s Club Mexico.  During her two years in this role, she introduced new consumer categories of software and hardware to the retail business in Mexico.  In 1996, Simona was promoted to Assistant Merchandising Director for General Merchandise and Groceries in Sam’s Club Mexico.   During her three years in this role, she introduced new business of Pharmacies; started and significantly grew import merchandise from USA and around the world and thus helped to provide unique and leading positioning for Sam’s in the market. 

In 2000, Simona was promoted to Director / General Merchandising Manager in Walmart Mexico, area of Centralized Negotiations with top suppliers. In this role, she formed part of the group responsible for negotiating the EDLC strategy for Walmart Mexico and  helped to set the base for moving Walmart Mexico to EDLP strategy consistent with Walmart principles. This changed the retailing industry in Mexico.  From 2000 through 2001 Simona was the Director / General Merchandising Manager over Consumables for retail formats in Walmart Mexico, being in charge of purchasing and merchandising for three different formats (Supercenter; Bodega Aurrera; Superama), negotiating and helping people and the organization to understand the EDLP principles. 

In 2002, Simona moved to Director / General Merchandising Manager in Sam’s Club Mexico, responsible for strategy and execution of merchandising, imports and replenishment across all  categories. Automatic replenishment was introduced, imports from Europe grew in order to maintain the leadership in novelty and trends in the market, and the focus on Business Members in the club business was reinforced.  For the next 5 years, Simona served as Vice President of Sam’s Club Mexico. During the period the organization experienced significant growth in all metrics - doubled the number of clubs doubled the sales volume, increased ROI to being top 1 or top 2 in Walmart Mexico and no.1 in Sam´s Club around the world. Introduced new small club prototype to service smaller markets, doubled the number of members , increased margin & bottom line income and strengthened the position of Sam’s Club as a market leader. 

In 2008, Simona was promoted to Senior Vice President for Retail Development – responsible for the Purchasing of Perishables, Meat & Fish, Bakery, Pharmacies, 1 Dollar store concept (Prichos), Private Brands Development, Apparel Supply Chain and Supplier Development for all of Walmart Mexico formats, as well as introducing the testing of new potential businesses (optical, clinics, etc.)

Also during this time, she temporarily lead Suburbia format (apparel department stores), to establish a base for smooth transition to the new season while the new responsible was assigned.  In July 2009, Simona was promoted to  a newly created role as Senior Vice President for the Global Merchandising Center for Emerging Consumers. In February 2011, She was assigned to lead Global Sourcing for Latin America.  In 2013, Simona was promoted to Senior Vice President and General Manager, Specialty Retail, Walmart Mexico & Centro America, responsible for Sam’s Club, Suburbia (Apparel Stores) and El Porton and Vips Restaurants.

Simona graduated from International Commerce at the Economics University of  Bratislava, Slovak Republic, in 1991.
