Shannon Smedstad spends her days leading HR social media and employment branding for GEICO’s corporate office in Washington, D.C., and has more than 14 years of recruiting experience.

Prior to GEICO, she managed the career services department for the Association for Financial Professionals in Bethesda, Md. and initially kicked off her career as a recruiter at Key Staffing Solutions in Rockville, Md. Her current responsibilities include developing HR social strategies to attract and engage job seekers, managing the GEICO Careers online communities, training recruiters, managing vendor relationships, and assisting GEICO’s major locations with recruitment strategies.

She regularly contributes to Blogging4Jobs, Secrets of the Job Hunt, Brazen Careerist and Lehigh Valley Family Fun blogs, and presents to college students on using social media in their job search. Shannon is a work-at-home mom raising two wonderful girls who also enjoys reading, writing, traveling and her morning coffee. She graduated in 1999 with a B.A. in Communications from Shippensburg University and currently resides with her family in the beautiful Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania.
