Executive Director, Scientists Without Borders

Shaifali Puri is the Executive Director of Scientists Without Borders, a public/private partnership led by the New York Academy of Sciences that is dedicated to identifying and accelerating innovative approaches and solutions to tackle the world’s most pressing development challenges.

Through its web platform, community of scientists, and strategic partner network, Scientists Without Borders connects science and technology assets, expertise, and resources around the globe by leveraging techniques such as crowdsourcing, incentive prizes, and designing non-traditional, multi-sector collaborations. Scientists Without Borders’s partners include PepsiCo, Johnson & Johnson, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, and USAID. In 2011, Scientists Without Borders was named a global finalist for the Katerva Award, which recognizes the world’s most promising sustainability initiatives.

Shaifali received her A.B. from Princeton University and her JD from Stanford Law School. She sits on the Board of Directors of the New York City Economic Development Corporation, is an Advisor to The Feat Social Innovation Conference, and serves on the Advisory Council of the United Nations Digital Health Initiative.

She is a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations and was selected in 2011 as one of Crain’s 40 Under 40 rising business stars in New York. In 2012 she was selected as a Pipeline Fellow and as one of Moves Magazine’s Power Women. Her writing has been featured in publications including Fortune Magazine, The New York Times, World Policy Journal, and Slate and she frequent speaker and moderator at conferences.
