Dr. Nancy M. Cappello was diagnosed with advanced stage breast cancer in February 2004 after receiving "normal" mammography reports for a decade. Through her tragedy, she learned the limitations of mammograms for women with dense breast tissue. Her advocacy has spearheaded two bills through the Connecticut legislature: In 2005, insurance coverage for ultrasound screening as an adjunct to mammography for women with dense breast tissue and in 2009, density reporting to the patient through her mammography report.

These landmark laws fueled the grassroots imperative across the globe to expose the secret of dense breast tissue through state, federal and regulatory efforts.  She is the founder of two nonprofits:  Are You Dense Inc. & Are You Dense Advocacy, Inc.

Her impactful mission has been feature in major media outlets. Dr. Cappello has presented her story across the country, Canada, Puerto Rico & Italy and is the recipient of numerous honors.
