Mayra Hernandez
Mayra Hernandez is the Head of Corporate Responsibility for Grupo Financiero Banorte, the third largest financial institution in Mexico. Mayra assumed this role in October 2009 to clearly define and articulate the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility strategy.
Even before the term Corporate Social Responsibility was coined, it has been at the core of Mayra’s innovative professional life. In 2004, she led the launch of the “Mujer Banorte” initiative. This was the first program of its kind in Mexico to financially empower women. Recently, Mayra has begun to present her experiences and efforts to promote CSR at conferences around the globe.
Mayra’s belief in the importance of giving back to the community manifests in generous philanthropic support of women and arts initiatives to inspire social innovation. She has served on the Board of Directors of Fundación Origen, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting underprivileged women in Mexico, and has co-chaired several fundraising events for El Museo del Barrio in NYC.
Mayra received a Special Studies Certificate in Administrative Science from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design from Universidad Iberoamericana. Presently, Mayra seeks inspiration and knowledge through independent course work, seminars and workshops. She is fluent in Spanish, English and French, and speaks Italian.
Prior to her current position, Mayra founded the Mexico City based design firm, Entrelínea, and New York City based IMPACTOHM Strategic Branding. Her unique vision-driven leadership style helped build long-term partnerships with clients such as fashion designer Christian Cota, Mission Foods and Gruma, the global leader in corn flour and tortilla products.
