Mary Irvin has over 30 years of experience serving the Intelligence Community and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). In January 2011, the Director of NGA appointed Ms. Irvin to lead NGA’s strategic changes for business with its mission partners and customers around the world.
From 2009-2011, Ms. Irvin served as the Director of the NGA Source Operations & Management Directorate where she oversaw the discovery, acquisition, production, and delivery of geospatial intelligence sources for NGA and the broader community.
Previously, Ms. Irvin was the Director of NGA’s Office of Geospatial-Intelligence Management where she led the Agency’s management of geospatial resources. In 2008, she was NGA’s lead for the Presidential Transition Team.
Throughout 1996-2006, Ms. Irvin held several key positions within NGA, including Senior Agency Liaison to the National Security Agency; Budget Chief for NGA’s Financial Management Directorate; Deputy Director, Office of Asia Pacific within the Analysis & Production Directorate; Deputy Director, Office of International Affairs and Policy; and NGA’s Senior Liaison for the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Command, Control, Communication, and Intelligence at the Pentagon.
In 1996, Ms. Irvin was on the transition team that formed NGA, which was formerly the National Imagery & Mapping Agency (NIMA). This transition merged portions of several intelligence agencies and defense mapping into a single intelligence agency.
Prior to her work with NIMA, Ms. Irvin held several leadership positions within the Defense Mapping Agency (DMA) including Division Chief for Digital Production and various supervisory positions within the DMA Program Management Offices. Before joining DMA, she served as a commissioned officer with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) aboard the hydrographic vessel, NOAA Ship Mt. Mitchell. She began her career as a staff member for the U.S. House of Representatives shortly after graduating from college.
Ms. Irvin was born in Boston, Massachusetts. She is a 1976 graduate of Boston College, holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. In 1977, Ms. Irvin completed NOAA Corps Officer Candidate training at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York. Ms. Irvin continued her studies at the University of Maryland University College where she completed her Master of Science degree in Technology Management in 1998.
Ms. Irvin is married with three children and lives in Frederick, Maryland.
