Maria Curran is vice president of Human Resources, Family Care Services and Community Benefit for the VCU Health System (VCUHS), central Virginia’s only Level 1 Trauma Center and academic medical center. More than 8,600 dedicated and professional employees allow VCU Health System to serve central Virginia and beyond through more than 500,000 outpatient visits, more than 80,000 emergency room visits and nearly 21,000 surgeries. Through innovative recruitment and retention practices, Ms. Curran has led VCUHS in becoming a Working Mother “100 Best” company for a seventh time in 2011. In addition, the Richmond Chamber of Commerce and the Richmond Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management have designated VCUHS Richmond’s Employer of Choice three times, including 2011. Ms. Curran serves on the University HealthSystem Consortium steering committee for Human Resources and she is an adjunct faculty member for the VCU Masters of Health Administration program.
