M. Melissa Glassman
Melissa Glassman is the Deputy Managing Partner of Business Development for McGuireWoods. She serves on the Firm's Executive Committee and Board of Partners. Ms. Glassman is the former Chair of McGuireWoods' Commercial Litigation Department and was the first woman to serve as an Office Managing Partner for McGuireWoods. She founded the McGuireWoods' Women's Business Development Committee, now known as McGuireWoods Women's Leadership Forum, and served as its first Chair. She has served as Chair of the Nominating Committee for McGuireWoods' Board of Partners and served on the Firm's Associate Committee.
Ms. Glassman focuses her practice on litigating complex commercial cases including shareholder matters, lender/borrower relationships, energy, construction, commercial leasing, real estate, land use, zoning and all manner of business disputes. She has also litigated eminent domain cases in Virginia and Maryland on behalf of water, sewer, natural gas and electrical utility companies. Over the past 24 years, she has litigated in state and federal courts throughout the United States. She also has extensive experience in handling the arbitration of all types of commercial disputes. In addition to litigation, she drafts and negotiates contracts related to commercial development, design and construction, including architectural, project management and general contractor agreements.
Ms. Glassman has been recognized as a "Leader in the Law," Virginia Lawyers Weekly, named "Top Washington Real Estate Litigation Lawyer" by the Washington Business Journal, honored as one of Virginia's "Legal Elite," Virginia Business and has served as a faculty member for the Virginia State Bar Harry L. Carrick Professionalism Course.
Among her many civic and professional duties, Ms. Glassman serves on the Girl Scouts of the National Capital Area Board of Directors and Women's Advisory Board. She also serves as the Fairfax County Superintendent of School Business and Industry Advisory Council and is on the Advisory Board for the National Association of Law Placement (NALP). She has served as the Chair of the Construction and Public Contract Section of the Virginia Bar Association and is a past board member of the Commercial Litigation Section of the VBA.
