Lisa Whitten, Ph.D.

Dr. Lisa Whitten earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Anthropology at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, in 1977 and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies at Adelphi University in 1982. She has been active in the Association of Black Psychologists since 1981, and was presented with the Distinguished Psychologist Award in 2009.

Dr. Whitten has been on faculty in the Psychology Department at the State University of New York, College at Old Westbury since 1986, where she has also served as Director of the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities since 2005. Her scholarship has emphasized bringing race and culture to the center of the undergraduate psychology curriculum. She has conducted numerous workshops on diversity for faculty and staff, and on academic success for college and medical students. In 1996, Dr. Whitten earned the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. She maintains a private practice in Harlem.
