Karen Casey has led Global Labor Relations for Walmart Stores since March 2009. Her responsibilities include working with business leaders for Walmart /SamsClub US/Puerto Rico operations and with the International division advising on labor relations issues particular to a specific country and significant global labor trends.
Karen joined Walmart in June 2005 and has held a series of leadership roles in the People Division that has developed her into a broad strategic leader. Karen originally joined Walmart as the Senior Director of Labor Relations in 2005, and was promoted in 2006, to Vice President of Human Resources for the Mountain Division for Walmart Stores. She also led the establishment of key People Support Divisions, including HR Strategy and Administration and Walmart US Compensation teams. In 2007, Karen was promoted to Senior Vice President of Human Resources - Walmart Canada. During this ex-patriot assignment, Karen worked collaboratively with the Canadian executive team on building a strong bench of top diverse talent to help accelerate Canada’s Supercentre growth.
Prior to joining Walmart, Karen enjoyed a 10 year career with Albertson’s grocery stores, where she held a broad range of leadership roles across the company’s human resources, labor relations and legal divisions. Karen began her career as a labor and employment attorney with the law firm, Clifton Budd & DeMaria in New York City.
Karen currently serves as Chairperson for the Corporate Advisory Board to WIPP (Women Impacting Public Policy), a national bipartisan public policy organization that advocates for and on behalf of women and minorities in business. She also sits on Walmart’s President’s Global Council of Women Leaders. Karen received her Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University, and a Juris Doctorate degree from Emory University Law School. She resides in Bentonville, Arkansas with her husband, Cliff, their daughter, Caroline and son, Elliot.
