President, General Motors Brazil

In 2011, Grace Lieblein was appointed GM Brazil President and Managing Director, and is responsible for the total operations of this subsidiary.

Before that, Lieblein was President and Managing Director of GM Mexico. She was the 18th GMM President and Managing Director, and the first woman to serve in this role. While in Mexico, in addition to her position at GM, she was appointed to the Board of Directors of the American Chamber Mexico, and was named Vice President of the Board. Previous to her position in Mexico, Lieblein was Global Vehicle Chief Engineer-Front Wheel Drive Trucks for the Product Development organization.

Lieblein began her GM career in 1978 as a co-op student at General Motors Assembly Division in Los Angeles, CA. In 1984 she transferred to Oldsmobile in Lansing, MI and was named industrial engineer. She went on to hold many positions at GM before becoming the Global Manufacturing System Implementation Leader for General Motors North American Engineering.

Lieblein received a master's degree in management - materials/logistics from Michigan State University and a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from Kettering University. She also earned a Certificate in Global Leadership from Thunderbird School of Global Management in 1998.

Lieblein is the highest-ranking Latina at GM and was the company’s first Latina Managing Director, and the first Latina vehicle chief engineer.

Lieblein has been widely recognized for her achievements—in 2011, she was recognized by Fortune magazine on their list of “50 Most Powerful Women in Business – International”, ranked as #22 overall and one of “10 Global Women on the rise.”
