Betty Spence, Ph.D.
Betty Spence, Ph.D. is an author, speaker, and expert on women in business and currently serves as president of the National Association for Female Executives and Entrepreneurs (NAFE), the nation’s largest women’s professional association. She created the annual list of the “NAFE Top Companies for Executive Women,” a benchmark for corporations on women’s advancement. She chairs the NAFE Roundtable, and also advises companies on the advancement of women and conducts corporate workshops on leadership.
Formerly Vice President of Communications at Catalyst, she wrote Be Your Own Mentor, advice from corporate women on propelling your own advancement published by Random House in 2001. She also oversaw the publication of two other Catalyst books, Creating Women’s Networks and Advancing Women in Business: Best Practices from the Corporate Leaders.
Dr. Spence has appeared as an expert on women’s business issues on the CBS Evening News, ABC Nightly News, CNN’s Nightly Business Report, and Bloomberg Television. She is frequently quoted in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Washington Post among others. A former writer for the Los Angeles Times and The Christian Science Monitor and a former professor of literature, Dr. Spence holds a Ph.D. in English and serves on the boards of directors of the Girl Scout Council of New York City and Girls Learn International.
