The funniest, most simple thing made me laugh harder than I have in a long time last night.
My husband was at hockey and I was getting Declan ready to get into the tub. We were jumping on the bed a bit, and when I tried to get his shirt on, it totally got stuck halfway up his face. He usually does not like this at all, so I was bracing for a bit of a tantrum. I let out a “oh jeez….” (Yup, I am from Minnesota!) and he follows with an "oh theez” and then cracked up in uncontrollable giggles.
He couldn’t stop giggling. I finally got the shirt off of him, and before I knew it, I was laughing uncontrollably. He would say, “oh theez!” and burst into another round of belly giggles. He made me laugh so hard my stomach hurt. It was a vicious and perfect cycle. I felt like I was back in junior high getting the giggles with my best friend over a cute boy.
After about five minutes of non-stop, muscle tightening, high-pitched, belly laughs, I laid there thinking to myself, wow…my two year old cracks me up. I mean, really cracks me up. And, I crack him up.
For the rest of tonight, Declan proceeded to giggle obsessively every time I said “oh jeez”, following up with a “oh theez!” Who would have thought I could be so funny? I guess I better savor it now. Before I know it, he’ll be embarrassed by my mere presence.
Declan, can you stay two years old forever?
