National Grandparent's Day

Posted on September 11, 2009

Grandparent's Day is Sunday, September 13th.  This day was founded by Marian McQuade, a housewife who wanted to recognize and appreciate the grandparents in nursing homes.  National Grandparent's Day was proclaimed by Jimmy Carter in 1978 to be celebrated, each year, on the first Sunday after Labor Day.

Honor your grandparents with a card, phone call or just spent some dedicated time with them.

Here's some popular grandparent quotes:

A grandfather is someone with silver in his hair and gold in his heart. ~Author Unknown

Grandma always made you feel she had been waiting just  to see you all day & now the day is complete.~Marcy DeMare

What a bargain grandchildren are!  I give them my loose change, and they give me a million dollar's worth of pleasure. ~ Gene Perret

Grandmas are moms with lots of frosting.  ~Author Unknown

The reason grandchildren and grandparents get along so well is that they have a common enemy.  ~Sam Levenson

Just about the time a woman thinks her work is done, she becomes a grandmother.  ~Edward H. Dreschnack
