Ellen Alemany, Citizens Financial Group

CEO, Chairman & CFO

Kids: 2 Daughters, 25 & 21; Son, 18

Ellen Alemany is one of the most powerful women in banking as head of Citizens Financial Group, Inc., a subsidiary of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group, one of the world’s largest banks by assets. Alemany also is a member of RBS Group’s nine-member global Executive Committee. She is presently the only woman CEO of a top ten bank in the U.S. Alemany’s business career had humble beginnings—her first job was at her father’s Bronx, New York liquor store. She got her MBA at night at Fordham University while working simultaneously at IBM. Alemany went on to work at Chase Manhattan Bank and Citibank before assuming her current role. Alemany runs an organization which employees over 21,000 people, and generated over $4.99 billion in revenues and held a total of $107.84 billion in deposits last year.

Despite a taxing position Alemany’s role as mom has always been paramount. Her eldest daughter is severely handicapped, which has impacted Alemany’s decision to stay rooted in New York City. She sits on the board of her handicapped daughter’s school and the March of Dimes.

I love that we can look back

I love that we can look back on some of our "choices" and see the humor and the lessons. And I especially love the day when the realization comes that we've stopped beating ourselves up! Lynne
