Halle Berry has supported more than a few causes during her career, including the Afghanistan Relief Organization, Clothes Off Our Back and Diabetes Awareness (Berry is a diabetic herself). She joined Callaway Golf Foundation Women’s Cancer Initiative after watching her obstetrician’s wife suffer through breast cancer while Berry was pregnant with daughter Nahla. The cause that has been closest to her heart is the Jenesse Center, a domestic violence shelter, of which she is chairperson. Berry has admitted to seeing her own mother being abused as a child.

Speaking at AFI Fest in 2010, Berry said being a mom has inspired her interest in philanthropy. “Being a mom does that for me,” she said. “It sort of puts things into perspective, and it’s about real life, and life is about people, what we give, what we take, what we share.”
