This was a weekend of milestones in our house. My 6 year-old son lost his 2nd front tooth and is now super cute and snaggle-toothed! My 10 month-old baby stood up unsupported! (Just long enough for me to snap a picture! Yay!). Both were exciting events and cause for lots of hoopla, fuss and doting! It was fun – we took pictures, we shot videos, we emailed our family and our oldest son was super excited to show all of his friends at school. And what I’m super excited about is watching my babies grow up right in front of my eyes (sniff sniff) and relishing these precious moments.
Milestones are great! These are the happy and special times that will stand out in our children’s memories forever. Amidst all of the busy craziness of trying to raise kids and juggle everything, these are the moments when we can pause and feel proud, jubilant and excited about our kids and their development and growth. It truly is the most amazing experience and blessing to witness, partake, cheer and root and share in the journey of their lives. While we can spend so much time as moms trying to just make it through each day with all that’s on our plates, milestones are like mini finish lines. They allow us to feel a sense of accomplishment and reaffirm that our kids are headed in the right direction (after all, it’s hard to always know this on a day-to-day basis).
As a mom, I feel the responsibility to create magical and fun memories for my kids that they will cherish and share fondly with their children. In fact, my son loves to hear my childhood stories and I enjoy relaying some of my milestone memories with him. They stand out in my memory for being fun, happy and celebratory times and it makes me feel good to know my kids will have the same experience. Milestones are made for moms…enjoy!
