College Advisor Mom
by Mary Davis
Moms are a force to be reckoned with. They juggle the kids’ activities, doctor appointments, household chores, homework help and their own work obligations, among so many other things. They do it all. It’s no wonder so many women worry about how they can manage going back to school to pursue their dreams or career aspirations when they’re already so busy.
These concerns are understandable. Pursuing higher education is a daunting task. It requires handling an additional time commitment, learning new skills and devoting a great deal of dedication. All of these are qualities we moms already possess! Adding education to the mix simply means tweaking some of the things you’re already doing.
That’s why Working Mother and Capella University have developed a series for moms all about going back to school. Each month, we’ll address issues such as the kinds of degree to pursue, seeking support for your education, the role of higher education in reaching career goals, getting involved in your community and more.
We’ll ask you to weigh in on poll topics and spark conversations on the things that may be weighing on your mind. We want to hear your voice and your concerns. This series is your chance to interact with others who are going through the same things you are as well as those who’ve been there and done that.
You can read about three moms who are working toward their degrees right now. You’ll gain insight on what can be achieved by advancing your education and see how others are getting it done. Going back to school is doable. We hope this series will be informative and inspirational in demonstrating just what’s possible when moms put their minds to something. You can do it! We hope to be a source of information and support along the way.
