A Letter to My Daughter

Posted on March 16, 2010

While you are only 1 1/2 years old now, soon life will begin to challenge you while offering amazing gifts and opportunities. I am writing this letter to let you know that you should never be deterred and see every challenge, every obstacle as a lesson to grow and become a better woman, a better person. You are a descendant of strong, capable, fierce, confident women; never doubt what you can accomplish. When the world says, "Give up," Hope whispers, "try it one more time."  Never ever stop trying. While your name means warrior, you should love everyone, even if they don't love themselves and even if they allow their insecurities to impede on your progress. I trust that humility will be intrinisic to your nature but never apologize for demanding the respect you deserve or speaking the truth to those that need to hear it. Know that if you do the same thing you always did, you'll get the same thing you've already got--be innovative and don't be afraid to take risks.  Never relish in your accomplishments for too long but do take pride in them, and compete only with yourself.  Life will throw you some curveballs but life is an amazing game, it's not how you score but how you play the game and respond to those curveballs.  There is so much more I would like to share with you, so much more that I'd love to prepare you for, but I know I cannot prepare you for everything. The only thing I can do is share my experiences as a woman, as a mother and as a person. You are an original, there are no copies.
