Kakie's Write

Posted on December 10, 2007

I wear so many hats in our household. I have big dreams and high expectations of myself. I am a well educated single mom who works fulltime in financial services and is an award winning co-author of four children's books who also manages its blog. I am Vice President and founding partner of a children's product company (my second full-time job). I am the chauffeur, the cleaner, the soccer mom; basketball mom, baseball mom, grocery getter AND I own a swiffer wet jet that I don't use. Perhaps it is the rebel in me, but I love the fact that I am an unconventional mom who refuses to fit into any stereotypes.

Often when I hear people tell me about balance, my response is; "Been there, done that, have the receipt and still paying the bill!"  I disagree with people who say it is impossible to have a career and be a good parent. I had a great role model growing up and I am living proof it can be done. There are times I can't imagine doing anything else.

My son is seven and is the best thing that ever happened in my life.  I was hit by a car at the age of five and so much damage was done nobody was sure if I would ever be able to have kids. He is my miracle and continues to amaze me everyday in so many ways.

I keep a journal where I have been writing letters to him since he was three months old. I love the written word because it serves so many purposes. It has been my educator, entertainer, a source of renewal, a healer and will be my legacy. There is something about the process of writing that pulls me in.

My hope for this blog is that it grows and becomes a forum that pulls people from all walks of life together. I look forward to meeting you as well as having a productive exchange of thoughts and ideas. Everyone has a story to tell, I wan't to hear yours. I know I will learn from you and hope in some way I can make a difference in your lives as well.  Please leave comments below and introduce yourself.
