Is It A Dress?

Posted on April 06, 2011
This morning I was excited to dress my 11-month-old daughter Alyssa in a somewhat-springy outfit and send her off to daycare. Although we are a few weeks into spring, the weather has been stuck in winter...until this week...we're showing highs in the mid-60's...hallelujah! Our morning rountines (as you can relate) are always rushed. Today I put Alyssa in what I thought was a dress and was excited about it. Upon handing Alyssa off to her daycare provider, she looked at Alyssa and said, "No pants today?" "No...not today." I replied. Wait - why didn't I respond "No, it's a dress." Because at that moment I second-guessed myself. That I perhaps put Alyssa in a longer t-shirt and skipped the pants. Mom FAIL. I emailed my husband a picture. This was our email thread: To: Husband From: Wife Subject: Dress? (Picture Attached.) I can't tell. Either way she is pantless at daycare today.   To: Wife From: Husband Subject: Re: Dress? Ha. Didn't you dress her?   To: Husband From: Wife Subject: Re: Re: Dress? I did. I thought it was a dress at first. I wanted her to be in a cute little dress. Now I am questioning whether or not it is in fact a dress.Oh well. She's cute regardless.   To: Wife From: Husband SubjecT: Re: Re: Re: Dress Wow. I think this is the most ridiculous conversation ever.   I had to chuckle. These are my worries these days but in my eyes they are legit. My conclusion: Yes, I sent Alyssa to daycare today without pants. Yes, I thought it was a dress.  And yes, now I feel bad. In the grand scheme of being a mother, this is nothing, but perhaps symbolic to my busy working lifestyle, our morning routine rush, and knowing that it's okay to have a good laugh along the way. Happy Wednesday!
