I have a 13 and 17 year old. I have taught them to write thank you notes for every gift or nice thing that is done for them since they could hold a pen. This teaches them that with every gift there is an obligation to show appreciation for the gesture and that its important to let the giver know that. It also teaces them to remember what was given to them and who gave it. When you don't teach a child to do this then you are not teaching them basic manners, receiving becomes too easy and gifts are taken for granted. I want my children to be recived well in the world and to always remember to show appreciation for nice gestures.
