Recently, I was asked “what’s the best way to avoid gaining weight when you’re at a desk all day?” Here are a few ideas:
*The first thing I’d recommend you do is not sit all day! Stand up when you’re on the phone, take a short walking break every half hour, etc.
*Also, don’t send emails to anyone in the office. Walk your message over for extra activity.
*Take the stairs instead of the elevator whenever possible
*Park further away and walk the distance instead of finding the closest spot
*You can do lunges, squats and even desk pushups at your desk.
*Bring your sneakers to the office and walk or run the stairs during your lunch break. If possible, find like minded coworkers to motivate and join you.
*Watch what you’re eating. Every morsel counts when you’re not as active as you need to be. Be careful about mindlessly grabbing something as you pass by someone’s desk or what you keep stashed in yours
*Keep your gym bag packed and in the car so you get to the gym before you get home. If guilt is a problem, erase it by telling yourself that you have more to give if you’re happy and feeling fit.
*If possible, work out before you leave in the morning. You have more control of your time and less commitments in the morning which often throw off a workout later in the day.
*Here’s one last one. It’s a little unconventional but I can assure you…it’s effective. In the photo you'll see a computer on a table sitting on top of my desk. On the floor you'll see a mini stepper. That's exactly what I’m using while writing this post!

I love your ideas and
I love your ideas and practice a lot of what you preach as well (minus the mini stepper). I actually have a Gaiam ball chair at my desk and it has helped me keep my posture straight. I do squat holds at my desk and no one would even know i'm doing it. I just hold a squat for a few second and repeat. I have an 8lb weight at my desk that i will do tricep or bicep curls with while on the phone. Oh, and while i'm in the bathroom stall, sometimes i'll even do a few squats....haha!
If there's a will to work in a workout at work, there's a way!
