C.J. Senter, a.k.a. the Workout Kid, has a passion for fitness—and he’s only 10! Share his savvy strategies with your family.

Morning Moves
Waking up early for school may be a drag, but a.m. workouts are great for pumping up energy and getting your blood flowing. Get out of bed and get immediately active with moves like jumping jacks and invisible jump-roping. These fun and easy actions don’t require any equipment and help you stay alert all day. You can even do them in your jammies before breakfast.

Balanced Eating
It’s important for kids to eat complete meals throughout the day—especially if they’re exercising or participating in afterschool activities. Families should also try to eat a healthy dinner together every night, even if it’s just a simple meal or something thrown on the grill. Sharing healthy dinners can help kids learn about nutrition. Take turns coming up with recipes.

Outside Energy

Getting active with your family means sharing activities that are fun for all. Go outdoors and play catch with a football or softball. Make up rules (whoever drops the ball first has to do push-ups), and sneak in little moves—hops, skipping, jumping jacks, arm pumps—to up the workout factor. Got a dog? Walk your pooch together in the evening to keep your family in shape.
