Too much tech time and your child may be at risk for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), a repetitive-motion injury that causes strain on the wrists’ tendons and nerves. Keep CTS at bay—for your child and you by:
Staying level.
Most computer screens are at a perfect height for adults but might be too high for kids. Lower the monitor or adjust the chair height so your kid can easily see without craning his neck.
Staying in line.
The mouse should be close to the body to help decrease neck and shoulder strain. When typing, your child’s knuckles, wrist and the top of the forearm should form a straight line.
Staying energized.
Every 20 minutes or so, have your child get up, stretch and move around. The more active, the less chance for developing CTS—and becoming a computer couch potato.
