The Top 10 Ways That a Mom is Like a President
1. We are honored with the greatest job in the world. Indeed it is!
2. We determine the platform (for our families) and then oversee its implementation according to our vision.
3. We have grand vision. And we're playing it out everyday.
4. We have a trusted circle of advisers that we confide in when making important decisions, when we get stuck, when we're in uncharted territory and when we want the benefit of wise counsel to help us do our jobs better.
5. We make mistakes. As hard as we try not to we do fall short sometimes. But we learn from it and are better for it.
6. We are held accountable for better or worse. When a child is unruly people say "shame on that mother for allowing that!" Likewise when our kids do great things, moms are the first to be credited for raising such wonderful children. The buck stops with us!
7. We make our mark. As our presidents are known for their historic feats - FDR for Social Security, LBJ for Civil Rights and Lincoln for Emancipation - we will always be remembered and appreciated by our kids (or so we hope!) for instilling great values, dispensing sage advice and always knowing the right thing to say or do at any given point in time.
8. We do endless prep (during pregnancy or the adoption or surrogacy process) like presidents do while campaigning and transitioning into office but once we take the "oath of office" i.e. the child is with us in the world, it's the real deal! And we learn on the job everyday!
9. We make history. In good times and especially bad, a president’s words go down in the history books. In the case of moms, our words penetrate the hearts, minds and souls of our children and become their history - the nuggets of wisdom which form the foundation from which they will grow and prosper.
10. Our job is never done! Enough said!
Hail to the President Moms!
