No more homework, no more books—may equal summer brain drain. Be sure the kids have just-right books to read, and encourage hands-on learning with activities like this one: In your driveway, use chalk to create giant word-search puzzles (plot them out on paper first), and ask your child to chalk circles around the words. Vary the puzzle themes—presidents, states, science—to encourage more thinking on each topic.
