I have been around 400+ women on a conference just recently and besides these women being moms like me, I discovered that most of us share one thing in common: Sassy kids! And not just any kids, there seem to be a certain criteria. It seem to be prevalent in kids aged 5-8 years old.
According to the moms I've spoken to, based on their own experiences { including myself }, the sassiness surfaces at the early age of 5 and progressing through the age of as late as 11. Ok that just tells me, I've got a long way to go before I finally get passed this phase of sassiness in my child. Mine is 6 years old. Oh dear!
Here are some of the common traits evident on a sassy child gathered from these moms:
- Back Talk
- Obnoxious attitude
- Controlling
- Confrontational
- Overly Assertive
Though these traits may sound so negative, it also represents that a child is maturing. They're more confident and smarter which invokes the power of independence which in turn conjures the need to control. But just like any unacceptable behavior, sassiness needs to be nipped in the bud ASAP. One thing that I'm in the process of eliminating and yes, be prepared, it will include arguments and some tears. Hopefully, not yours mom!
Do you have a sassy child? How are you dealing with this behavior? At what age did you notice this trait surfaced? Please share your story and may be a tip or two?
