As I am staring at the blinking curser, I started to think whether or not I truly really had any meaningful advice to give to all of the busy mom entrepreneurs out there. What advice could I possibly give since I literally just started my children’s boutique; there are hundreds of women out there that have already mastered owning their own business. I am not a walking inspiration; I do not have a group of women knocking on my door for advice. I am a simple woman with a full-time job who just wants to spend more time with her daughter, than the cube I am sitting in now. It is amazing how something so little can change your perception on life and make you do things you did not think you had the courage to do. One day though I hope to be one of those women that other woman like me look up to for advice and motivation through the success or failure of starting my business.
I am still learning, but here are some bits of advice I can offer to all of you mom entrepreneurs that are selling tangible items online:
1.) Take the time to find great suppliers and always ask for a sample to check out the quality. Think of it as taking a trip to your favorite department store for a handbag. Before you buy it you feel the handbag, check out the compartments, turn it around and lastly throw it on your shoulder to see if it actually looks as good as you think.
2.) After you had made your items, take GREAT pictures. You may need to help of photo software such as Photoshop. Think of photo software a push up bra or wonder bra (in case of a really bad camera) your just giving your items a little something to ensure that your customers see the items the way they truly are in person.
3.) Now that you have fabulous pictures you need a great platform to sell your products such as Etsy or your own website. Think of it as your favorite shopping mall or store and PR the crap out of it. More to come on PR as I am still testing some idea out and waiting for the results.
