Starting Solids
Once your baby has mastered rice cereal, it’s time to move on to fun but simple fruits and veggies—without the extra sugar or additives in many premade baby foods. Introduce one new ingredient at a time; that way you’ll be able to figure out the cause of any allergic or negative reactions. It’s also a good idea to offer new foods at breakfast or lunch rather than at dinnertime to prevent gas or a tummy ache from keeping your baby up all night.

Carrot and Ginger
Start with 11/2 pounds of carrots; cut each lengthwise and then into 8 or 10 pieces. Peel and mince 1 tablespoon  of fresh ginger. Put the ingredients  in a pot with 21/2 cups of hot water and cook 6 to 8 minutes. Pour into  a blender and purée until smooth.

Basic Apple
Peel 5 apples and cut each in half.  Remove the core and seeds and cut each half into 6 pieces. Put the  apple pieces and 8 ounces of water into a 4-quart pot. Cover with a lid and cook about 8 minutes. Pour into a blender and purée until smooth.

Blueberry Apple
Try this combo after you’ve  introduced apples. Peel and cut  up 4 apples. Put apples, 1 cup of  blueberries and 8 ounces of water into a 4-quart pot. Cover and cook  8 minutes. Pour into a blender and  purée until smooth.
