- I don’t expect you to do it all yourself. Please delegate, let me know your time limitations, and keep the lines of communication open!
- When helping in the classroom, please leave your cell phone in the car or put it on silence, and plan extra time for parking and checking in at the office.
- Please leave the curriculum and lesson planning to me. I welcome your suggestions, but be respectful if I can’t incorporate your ideas.
- Confidentiality is a must. Please don’t ask me about student special needs and please keep your experiences with kids private.
- Keep it simple! Class celebrations are already exciting days for kids because they are a break from routine. There is no need to go all-out with complicated crafts, snacks and activities for parties.
- Ask me about student food allergies and school policies regarding food in the classroom and parent communication.
- Don’t bomb parents with ‘reply-all’ emails or frequent calls for help, plan the year ahead of time – I’ll help!
- Use VolunteerSpot’s free sign up sheets and scheduler to get parents organized. It also helps bridle ‘over volunteering’ parents because everyone has an equal chance of signing up to help at parties, field trips, etc.
- Let me know how you prefer to be contacted (phone, email, text) and I will do the same. Give me time to respond – I know we are both busy!
- We’re a team! Both our goals are to maintain an enriching yet fun learning environment for the students to be themselves and grow. Know you are appreciated for all you do!
