New York hairstylist Romain Pallardy (romainpallardysalon.com) explains how to start things off right.
1 Make it fun
The style is secondary. “You want to create a positive, fun experience,” says Pallardy, whose 1900s barber chair dazzles kids. Focus on making him feel he’s doing something grown-up.
2 Be positive
If you’re anxious, your child will be, too. “The parent’s attitude plays an important part in the success of a first haircut,” Pallardy says. So tell him how terrific he looks with his new trim.
3 Let them bond
Choose a stylist with a warm, playful personality. Then step back so the two can chat and develop a rapport. Let them work as a team so your child is part of the process.
