Dina Dwyer-Owens, Working Mom CEO

CEO and Chair of The Dwyer Group

Headquarters: Waco, TX

Dina runs a family-built company of home service franchises which now includes The Glass Doctor, Mr. Rooter and Mr. Appliance. Dina started working with her dad, the group founder, when she was 13. When her father died in 1994, she was placed in a leadership role and a year later was named CEO. At first, the board wondered about having a woman run a company focused on male service employees. But Dina told them clearly, that while the work was being done by mostly men, their customers in home services were mainly women. Dina won them over.

The Dwyer Group is now a multi-million-dollar company with 1,300 franchises in the United States and Canada, and licensed groups in seven countries.

I loved Dina's episode which

I loved Dina's episode which I happened upon while channel-surfing--I seldom watch TV. She demonstrated the best qualities of leadership: compassion, listening, integrity, and action. And can she convey a message! She aligned herself with each employee's tone so well. I'm recommending my mentees to view this episode if available on hulu. Thanks, Dina for setting the bar high. I'd follow you anywhere. Leslie Co-Chair The Center for Asian Pacific American Women
